Germs pass from person to person or indirectly by touching contaminated equipment or surfaces. Cleanliness experts say hygienic cleaning will help prevent bacteria spreading in the office thus, reducing sick days. Hygienic cleaning involves focusing your efforts on areas in the office where germs are more likely to spread and cause infection. Flooring is often overlooked but is thought to be the worst culprit for the proliferation of the bacteria.

PWC (Price Waterhouse Coopers) suggests it costs UK business up to £29 billion a year! With the average employee said to take between eight and nine days off per year due to sickness.

Therefore, an investment to reduce the impact on your business must be a cost worth bearing.

Floor Cleaning

Cleaning floors on a regular basis to remove visible dirt is a common practice in most office space. However, when was the last time your office received a deep clean?

Flooring should be cleaned on a regular basis & deep cleaned at least once a year or more regular in more sensitive areas such as office bathrooms, showers, etc.

A deep clean removes the nasty germs that breed the cold & flu viruses. Ready to incubate on the next unsuspecting employee who happens to come into contact with the bacteria.

Wall Cleaning

Keeping wall tiles and grout in good condition and cleaning them is again a regular role of your appointed cleaning company. But a deep clean of such surfaces at least once a year is recommended.

A deep clean will remove the build-up of bacteria in the primary locations around the office where employees are likely to congregate such as next to drinks machines, lifts, etc. Research shows the output of a sneeze can travel at 100mph and reach up to 200 feet!

Surface Top Cleaning

Work desks, office kitchens and meeting room desks offer a breeding ground for the dreaded bacteria. While these items may receive dusting frequently, the cleaning solutions used in this process will not cleanse the areas thus, allowing the growth of the germs. A deep clean is a must at least once a year and perhaps, more often if a bug sweeps through your team. Encourage your staff to maintain their work space removing used handkerchiefs, don’t leave food and drinks lying around and wipe down their keyboards and mice on a regular basis with bacteria-killing hand wipes.

Don’t Stop with the Surfaces!

Imagine the scenario; you’ve just had the office deep cleaned and a colleague wanders in on a Monday morning with a cold or flu and starts spreading the germ onto door handles, phone handsets, keyboards and goodness knows what else. If you’ve ever been on a cruise ship, you’ll be aware they ask you to sanitise your hands before entering the dining room and other public indoor areas. Why? Because it’s critical, they stem the spread of any bugs brought on by unsuspecting passengers, and if they don’t, others on the ship will pick up the virus and start to spread it.

How about mobile phones? Studies have shown that your cell phone may carry more bacteria than a public toilet! There are now several products on the market that while charging a mobile phone will blast it with ultra-violet light killing all the germs on the phone.
